MOTOR UNIT OVERVIEW

The primary goal of the Motor Squad is “to develop and maintain a safe, efficient, and professional motorcycle component to educate, inform, and enforce traffic concerns affecting the Seminole Tribe of Florida, its residents, guests, and other interests.

The four officers assigned to the Motor Squad are properly licensed and equipped to operate a Harley Davidson FLHTP, 103 cubic inch motorcycle.  The officers must attend an 80-hour training course and be proficient in the operation of a police motorcycle to be a member of the squad and attend monthly refresher training.   Their assignment to the Motor Squad is a secondary assignment to the officer’s full-time primary assignment either in patrol, investigations, or support bureau duties.
  

MOTOR SQUAD FUNCTIONS

The motor officers are primarily assigned out of the Hollywood Reservation for traffic related assignments.  They will and can assist the other Reservations as requested by each Reservation command for a variety of functions.  The primary functions of the Motor Squad consist of:

  1. Community Policing – sharing the goals of safe driving, traffic courtesy, educating the public on the laws and rules of the road for vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
  2. Escorts – assisting with the safe movement of traffic and pedestrians at funerals, parades, running events, dignitary movement, or other specific events as assigned. 
  3. Special Events – participating in supporting operations enforcement plans, police riding skills competitions, national police memorial week functions, fundraisers, and other dignitary protection concerns.
  4. Traffic Enforcement – accident investigation, writing traffic tickets, and assisting other law enforcement operations
